Product Description
How is chrome plated bar manufactured?
This product is mostly produced from round carbon steel rods, by using high precision centerless grinding and polishing methods, and then chrome plated to a certain plating thickness such as min. 20 microns (0.0008″), min. 25 microns (0.001″), min. 50μm (0.002″) and so on.
Hard chrome plated bar is a chromium-plated round steel product used primarily as piston rod material in all standard applications in hydraulics and pneumatics. Popular applications are found in dump trucks, lifters, garbage compactors, cranes, agricultural machinery and production equipment with movable parts. Chrome plated bars & rods are mostly used as piston rods (cylinder rods), which is a critical component in hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders. The basic function of transforming hydraulic power to a linear motion whilst preventing ingress of abrasive media into the hydraulic system will stipulate a set of demands on the rod.
As the chrome plated rod/ bar is usually used as hydraulic cylinder shafts, pneumatic cylinder shafts and other machine shafts, so they are known as Hard Chrome Plated Shafts also.
